GOLF TEACHING PRO®

Do you get frustrated when your students don’t perform up to their potential? Do you want to learn how to teach your students how to handle pressure more effectively? Are you interested in becoming more knowledgeable about golf psychology?

The United States Golf Teachers Federation presents the Master the Mental Game seminar series. The USGTF acknowledges that teaching should encompass both the physical as well as the mental components of the game. If you are only teaching the physical components of the swing to your students, you may be missing a key element to having them play their best.

Master the Mental Game is a one-of-a-kind seminar because it not only teaches you the secrets of the mental game, but also illustrates how to teach the mental game to your students. You can read books on the subject, and see a few lectures, but understanding how to apply the material to your students can be very difficult. Master the Mental Game gives you hands-on techniques that you can easily apply to help your students develop their own mental toughness.

Participants in the seminar will learn the Mental and Emotional Strengths program. This program discusses five key strengths that are essential to mastering the mental game. These strengths include:

  1. HAVING SELF-AWARENESS: You have to know why you play your best and why you play your worst.

  2. BEING CONFIDENT: Confidence comes from our preparedness. It also comes from our self-talk and ability to fight off our negative critic.

  3. BEING CONNECTED: We should be fully engaged in the process as well as the moment. We also need to let go of our analytical thoughts and just react to the moment.

  4. BEING FEARLESS: We need to overcome our fear of looking foolish. Success stems from facing our fears head on and allowing them to catapult us to the next level.

  5. HAVING JOY: Success takes enjoying what you do, whether it is practicing or playing in competition.

The program will illustrate these strengths, as well as how to harness these strengths in your students, so that they can play their best. Participants will also be instructed in how to use the Mental/Emotional Strength Assessment Tool (MESAT).

This assessment tool will allow instructors to easily assess their student’s mental game. But, this seminar is not about just gaining knowledge. The second half of the seminar illustrates how to teach these strengths in practice situations and on the course. Participants will be shown how to use these key strengths when instructing the short game as well as the full swing. Participants will learn:

  1. A pre-shot routine that allows the student to become
    more reactive to the shot.

  2. An effective post-shot that helps to let go of unwanted
    negative thoughts.

  3. Key words to say that enhance confidence.

  4. A concentration routine that allows players to harness
    their focus.
